As the irregular troop, they just had informal training before they went to Vietnam. During the mission, they had to pass over mountains and challenge their own wills. They started with no trust to become mutually supportive with one another at the end. However, only few of them were able to come back eventually.

Shih-hsien advises Princess Chang Ping to surrender on the condition that Ming Emperor and Queen must be royally entombed while the crown prince must be released. The petition is granted. Princess Chang Ping and Shih-hsien are married in court. Right under the camphor tree, they toast each other with poisoned drinks and die together in a last burst of glory.
